Worth knowing before you buy: dandelion root and dandelion leaf are used differently in the traditional herbal literature, and products specify which they contain. Lifeplan's is root; check each pack rather than assuming.

It is a classic bitter herb, which in the old European tradition means it was taken before food. That is the historical use rather than a statement about what it does.

A Vogel and Herb Pharm both make tinctures from fresh rather than dried plant, which is their approach across their ranges. A tincture is taken in a little water and a 30ml or 50ml bottle lasts a surprisingly long time.

Capsules are simpler and have no taste, which matters here, because dandelion tincture is properly bitter. Each pack carries its own instructions and those are the ones to follow.

Dandelion is in the daisy family, so anyone allergic to daisies, ragweed or chrysanthemums should avoid it – the same caution as echinacea and milk thistle.

Leave it alone in pregnancy and while breastfeeding unless a midwife has told you otherwise. If you take prescribed medication, particularly diuretics or anything for your heart, ask your pharmacist before starting.
