A cholesterol result is not one figure but several – total, LDL, HDL and often triglycerides – and the ratio between them matters as much as any single number. That is exactly why interpreting it is your GP's job and not ours.

Red yeast rice contains a naturally occurring compound called monacolin K. That compound is chemically identical to lovastatin, a prescription statin, which is why the permitted amount in a supplement is capped and why no claim is made for it here.
The practical consequence is simple: do not take it alongside a statin, and do not start it without speaking to your GP. It is also not appropriate in pregnancy or breastfeeding.
