What is the “mother” in cider vinegar?
A cloudy strand of natural cellulose and bacteria left when vinegar is unfiltered and unpasteurised. It is harmless and normal — shake the bottle before pouring.

Do I need to rinse tinned beans?
Draining and rinsing removes some of the starch and salt from the canning liquid, which makes for a cleaner flavour. For soups and stews you can add the liquid if you want the thickness.
How should cider vinegar be stored?
Cool and out of sunlight, lid on. It keeps a long time; the mother may grow or settle, which is not a fault.
