Kallo has been a fixture of the health food aisle for decades, largely on the strength of its stock cubes and bouillon. The appeal is a short ingredients list and versions that suit particular diets, which conventional stock cubes rarely do.
The range covers organic, yeast free, low salt and gluten free options, so it is usually possible to find a cube that fits whatever you are cooking around.
Stock cubes are the core: vegetable, chicken and beef, in organic, yeast free and low salt versions. Bouillon powder is there if you would rather measure than unwrap.
The rice cake side covers plain and flavoured, including chocolate-topped versions. They are naturally gluten free, though as always the pack is worth checking.
We have sold store cupboard staples since 1988 and keep the specialist versions — yeast free, low salt — which are the hardest to find in a supermarket.
Free UK delivery on orders over £40, with orders placed before midday Monday to Friday aimed for same-day dispatch.
Expert, impartial advice on 01323 928523, 9am–5pm Monday to Friday.
One cube generally makes around 500ml of stock, but check the pack, as this varies. If you are watching salt, the low salt cubes are a straightforward swap without changing how you cook.
Store cubes somewhere cool and dry and reseal the box. Rice cakes go soft quickly once opened, so an airtight container is worth the trouble.
FAQ
Are Kallo stock cubes gluten free?
Several lines are and are labelled as such, but not all. Check the individual pack.
Is there a yeast free option?
Yes — Kallo makes yeast free vegetable stock cubes, which is one of the main reasons customers come to the brand.
How much stock does one cube make?
Usually around 500ml, though it varies by product. The pack gives the exact ratio.
Are the stock cubes vegan?
The vegetable varieties generally are; chicken and beef are not. Check the individual pack.
Are rice cakes gluten free?
Rice cakes are naturally gluten free, but check the pack for flavoured and topped versions, where other ingredients are involved.
