Lip skin is thin and has almost no oil glands of its own, which is why it dries faster than the rest of your face and why cold wind gets to it first.
Licking them makes it worse rather than better – saliva evaporates and takes moisture with it. That habit undoes most of what a balm is doing, and breaking it helps more than changing product.
