Merchant Gourmet makes ready-to-eat pulses and grains in pouches — lentils, quinoa, rice and beans, cooked and ready to use. The range includes Puy Lentils and Beluga Lentils. Free UK delivery on orders over £40 from Quickvit.
Merchant Gourmet's proposition is time. Pulses and grains that would otherwise need soaking and simmering come cooked, in a pouch, ready to tip into a pan or a salad.
The quality is better than the convenience suggests — proper Puy lentils rather than an approximation, and grains that keep their texture rather than turning to mush.
Lentils are the strongest part of the range: Puy, beluga and red and white varieties, each holding its shape differently.
Beyond lentils there are quinoa, rice, mixed grains and beans, plus flavoured versions with herbs or vegetables already in.
We have sold pulses and grains since 1988 — dried by the kilo and, for when there is no time for that, these.
Free UK delivery on orders over £40, with orders placed before midday Monday to Friday aimed for same-day dispatch.

They are ready to eat cold, straight from the pouch into a salad, or warmed through in a pan or microwave. They do not need cooking, only heating if you want them hot.
Once opened, transfer any unused contents to a covered container in the fridge and use within a couple of days. Pouches keep in the cupboard until opened — check each for its own best-before date.
FAQ
Do they need cooking?
No — they are already cooked. Eat cold or warm through, whichever suits the dish.
What is the difference between Puy and beluga lentils?
Both hold their shape well. Puy are slate-green with a peppery flavour; beluga are small, black and slightly firmer.
Are they suitable for vegans?
The plain pulses and grains generally are. Flavoured versions vary, so check the individual pouch.
How should I store an opened pouch?
Covered, in the fridge, used within a couple of days.
Are they gluten free?
Some are and some are not — grain mixes in particular may contain gluten. Check the individual pouch.
