Tea & Coffee

Everything for the kettle: organic and Fairtrade tea, herbal infusions, real coffee and the caffeine-free alternatives. Clipper make up the largest part of it, with Pukka and Yogi on the herbal side and Union Roasted Coffee for beans and grounds.

Clipper have been blending in Dorset since 1984 and their unbleached bags are a small thing that matters. Go straight to tea for the leaf, or drinks for the wider range.

Clipper have been at it in Dorset since 1984 - organic, Fairtrade, and using unbleached tea bags, which sounds minor until you learn what the bleaching involves. They are the backbone of this range for good reason.

Pukka blend organic herbs to their own recipes and are a certified B Corp. Yogi work from Ayurvedic formulas, and Heath & Heather have been going since 1920. Union Roasted Coffee roast in London and publish where the beans came from.

Coffee sits well ahead of everything else; black tea carries roughly half as much, green rather less, and herbal infusions almost none - though check the pack, since some blends include green tea or guarana.

Barley and chicory drinks are the traditional caffeine-free alternative. They taste of themselves rather than of coffee, which is the honest way to put it, and people who like them tend to like them a lot.

Water temperature matters more than most people think. Boiling water scalds green tea and turns it bitter - let the kettle stand a couple of minutes first. Black tea and most herbals are fine with a full boil.

Coffee goes stale far faster once ground. Whole beans in a sealed jar away from light keep their character for weeks; pre-ground is convenient and fades quickly.

FAQ

Are the tea bags plastic free?

Clipper's are unbleached and plastic-free, and several other brands here have moved the same way. It is stated on the box and you can filter for it above.

How much caffeine is in green tea?

Less than black tea, and well under coffee - though it varies by leaf and how long you brew it. Herbal infusions are generally caffeine-free unless the blend includes green tea, matcha or guarana.

What temperature for green tea?

Around 80 degrees, so let a boiled kettle stand two or three minutes. Boiling water scalds the leaves and makes it bitter.

Do you sell decaf?

Yes, in both tea and coffee, and the filters above will isolate them. Look for the decaffeination method on the pack if that matters to you - CO2 and water processes are the ones most people prefer.
