English Mitcham peppermint contains an unusually high content of methylesters, which provide excellent body and sweetness to the oil. It has a modest content of menthone, the bitter-tasting ketone found in higher concentrations in standard varieties. This composition makes it the preferred choice for after-dinner mints and mint liqueurs. The organic cultivation makes this peppermint particularly susceptible to rust, making production challenging and the final product more valuable.
Peppermint oil is traditionally used after over-indulgence. For a comforting tummy rub, blend 1 drop of this peppermint oil with 5ml of sweet almond oil and massage in a clockwise direction on the abdominal area.
Add 4 drops to a bowl of warm water for a wonderfully refreshing foot soak that revitalizes tired feet.
Use this oil as an effective insect deterrent by diffusing it in a burner or creating a room spray. Add 10 drops to a plant spray bottle filled with water, shake well, and spray around rooms or on pets' bedding. Avoid spraying on polished wood as it may cause damage, and note that it may bleach fabrics.
Do not use peppermint oil during the first 4 months of pregnancy and use with care thereafter. As with all essential oils, always dilute properly before topical application.
