The vitamin D3 here comes from lichen rather than lanolin, which is what makes it suitable for vegans.

Each capsule supplies 4000iu of vitamin D3, which is 100 micrograms, from lichen extract in fractionated coconut oil with d-alpha-tocopherol and arabic gum, on a rice flour base in a vegetable cellulose shell. Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and teeth, to normal muscle function and to the normal function of the immune system.

Almost all vitamin D3 is derived from lanolin, from sheep's wool, so vegans have historically had to take D2, which the body uses less readily. Lichen-derived D3 solves that, and costs more to produce.

Balanced's directions are one capsule daily with a meal, giving two months from this bottle.

4000iu is a high daily amount, at the upper end of what is advised without medical supervision. Do not exceed the stated dose.
