Nutritional Profile

Fonio is naturally gluten-free and provides essential amino acids, making it a complete plant-based protein source. This grain contains iron, zinc, magnesium, and B vitamins (B1 and B3). It is high in fiber and has a low glycemic index (GI), which supports steady energy release without blood sugar spikes. The grain is suitable for coeliacs, vegans, and those following gluten-free diets.

Cooking and Uses

Fonio has a light, fluffy texture similar to couscous with a subtle nutty flavor. It cooks in 3 minutes on the stovetop or microwave. Use it in breakfast porridge, grain bowls, salads, stir-fries, stews, or as a side dish. The grain works well in both sweet and savory recipes and absorbs flavors effectively.

Stovetop method: Combine 50g fonio with 100ml water in a pan. Bring to boil, simmer for 1.5 minutes, remove from heat and let stand for 1.5 minutes. Fluff with a fork.

Microwave method: Add 50g fonio to 100ml water in a bowl. Cover and microwave for 2 minutes. Fluff with a fork and let stand for 2 minutes.

This organic fonio is sourced from small-scale women farmers in West Africa, specifically Southern Mali. The grain is grown sustainably in the Sahel region, requiring minimal water and thriving in poor soil conditions. The grain is certified organic by the Soil Association and contains no pesticides, additives, or preservatives.

Please note that we cannot send liquids over 100ml outside the UK.

As international deliveries are handled by local postal and courier services, we cannot guarantee delivery times once your order has left the UK.

Dispatch Times

Orders placed before 12:00pm (midday), Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays) are usually dispatched the same working day.

Returns

If there is a problem with your order, please contact us by email within 7 working days of receiving it. We will provide a returns label and, once the item has been received and inspected, we will either issue a refund to your original payment method or send a replacement.

If you have changed your mind or ordered the wrong product, please contact us by email within 7 working days. We will be happy to arrange a refund or exchange. Please note that you will be responsible for the cost of returning the item.

We provide free returns only where we have made an error with your order or if your item has arrived damaged.
