This is a gentle, low-foaming face wash built on sugar-derived cleansers rather than sulphates.

The cleansing agents are decyl glucoside and coco-betaine, both mild, with xanthan gum as a thickener, bamboo stem powder, aloe vera juice powder and glycerin. Sodium benzoate and levulinic acid preserve it.

Bamboo stem powder is the textural ingredient, giving a very fine physical polish rather than the harsh scrub particles older exfoliating washes used.

Fushi's directions are to apply a pea-sized amount to clean, dry skin, concentrating on the T-zone, and massage in circular movements before rinsing.

Applying it to dry rather than wet skin is unusual and is worth following as written, since it changes how the bamboo behaves.

Low-foaming cleansers can feel as though they are not working if you are used to a sulphate wash. That is the formulation rather than a fault, and the lather has nothing to do with how clean your skin ends up.

1. Apply on clean and dry skin. Squeeze a pea-sized amount of the face wash onto fingertips and your T-zone.

2. Rub in circular and gentle motions on the face, insisting on the T-zone, before adding a few drops of water and massaging out onto cheeks and the jawline.

3. Rinse thoroughly. Use daily.
