Barleygrass is the young leaf of the barley plant, harvested well before it forms grain, and this one is grown in New Zealand.

The only ingredient is organic barley grass powder. New Zealand growing is the selling point: the soil and air quality are the reason producers name the country on green powders, where much of the world's supply is unspecified.

The suggested amount is 5g to 15g a day, one to three teaspoons, stirred into water, juice or a smoothie.

The flavour is grassy and mild, notably gentler than wheatgrass or spirulina, which makes it a reasonable first green powder if you have not got on with those.

Barley grass contains gluten only if harvested late; this is cut young, though coeliacs should check with the manufacturer.
