The number on the front of this pack needs explaining, because it is not the amount in one unit.

Each one supplies 5,000iu of vitamin D3, which is 125 micrograms. The 50,000iu printed on the carton refers to the pack as a whole, not to a single dose, so do not read it as a per-unit figure.

HealthAid's directions are one a week, not one a day. That weekly rhythm is the point of a strength like this: vitamin D is fat-soluble and stored by the body, so a larger amount taken once a week is a recognised alternative to a small daily dose. They note that more frequent use may be appropriate where a doctor has identified severe deficiency, which is a conversation to have with them rather than a decision to make yourself.

Vitamin D contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and teeth, to normal muscle function, and to the normal function of the immune system.

The D3 is carried in sunflower seed oil.

Each Capsule Contains (Average):

Vitamin D3 (5,000iu) 125µg

Bulking Agent (sunflower seed oil), Capsule Shell [gelling agent (modified starch, glycerol, carrageenan), acidity regulator (sodium carbonate)], Vitamin D3 (medium chain triglycerides, cholecalciferol, dl-alpha tocopherol).

Adults take one capsule weekly.

In some cases where you have been advised of a very severe Vitamin D3 deficiency it may be suitable to take this more frequently. If you are taking it daily or every other day it would be advised to get a blood test every 4 weeks to ensure your D3 levels are not rising excessively.
