Brazil nuts are well known as one of the richest natural sources of selenium, so even a small handful goes a long way nutritionally — though for that reason they're best enjoyed in modest portions rather than by the handful every day. Their broken form also makes them easier to fold evenly through cake batters, flapjacks and homemade chocolate bark. Certified organic, vegan and gluten-free, they suit most plant-based diets. Store in a cool, dark place, or the fridge in warmer months, to stop their natural oils turning rancid.
