Spirulina tablets are simply the dried algae pressed into shape, and this is the largest count Golden Greens make.

The single ingredient is organic spirulina. Unlike chlorella, spirulina has no tough cellulose cell wall, so it needs no cracking or processing before it can be digested; it is dried and pressed and that is all.

Golden Greens' directions are eight to ten tablets daily, which sounds a lot but is standard for spirulina.

At that rate this pot lasts around six weeks, where the 250 tablet size runs to under a month. If you take it every day, the larger pot is the one that makes sense.

Natures Aid and Viridian both make spirulina in a different format if you would rather take fewer, larger units, though the amount of spirulina per pound is lower.

Spirulina has a strong, savoury, distinctly pond-like taste. In tablet form you barely notice it, which is the main argument for tablets over the powder.

A food supplement is not a substitute for a varied diet.
