During steam distillation, Ylang Ylang oil is separated into different fractions. The first fraction becomes Ylang Ylang Extra, followed by grades I, II, and III. Ylang Ylang means "flower of flowers" and is extracted by steam distillation from the flowers of a tropical tree that grows in the Indian Ocean. When Ylang Ylang is distilled, the first fraction is separated out and called Ylang Ylang Extra. The next fraction is known as Ylang Ylang I, then II and finally III. Ylang Ylang Extra is very highly regarded and finds its way into top quality perfumes. Though the chemical profiles are very similar between the oils, the Extra is richer in many of the top notes.
Ylang Ylang is one of the most popular essential oils for diffusing. It has a wonderfully exotic aroma in its own right but blends well with Bergamot, Rose or Sweet Orange.

Returns
