Ceylon or zeylanicum (cinnamon verum) is commonly known as "true cinnamon" due to its origin from Sri Lanka, historically known as Ceylon. While it was traditionally grown only in Sri Lanka, sailors began cultivating it in Madagascar in the 17th century. This is one of the few other places in the world where true cinnamon can thrive outside of its native country.

Known for its warm and aromatic flavour, cinnamon has become a staple spice in both sweet and savoury dishes across various cultures. In recent years, Ceylon cinnamon has gained attention for its potential health benefits, including maintaining healthy blood sugar and lipid levels, as well as aiding in stomach comfort.
