Organic lines here are certified by the Soil Association or an equivalent body, with the certifier shown on the pack. It is a legal standard covering how the crop was grown and what could be used on it, not a marketing word.

Infinity Foods has been supplying organic wholefoods out of Brighton for decades, which is why so much of this range carries their name. Clearspring works to the same standard across its Japanese and Mediterranean lines.

Getting the foundations right matters more than anything you add later. A good olive oil, a decent stock, whole spices rather than pre-ground, and tinned tomatoes that actually taste of tomatoes will do more for everyday cooking than any amount of technique.

Whole spices in particular keep their aroma far longer than ground. A whole nutmeg is still fragrant long after the pre-ground jar has gone flat.

Gluten-free flours, dairy-free alternatives, vegan sauces and no-added-sugar preserves all sit in this range and can be isolated with the filters above.

If you are cooking for a serious allergy, always read the pack in front of you. Recipes and 'may contain' warnings change between batches, and the label on the jar is the one that counts - not a website.

FAQ

Is the olive oil cold-pressed?

Many of them are, and it is stated on the product page where it applies. Cold-pressed oils are extracted without heat, which keeps more flavour and aroma - better for dressings and finishing than for high-heat frying.

How should I store herbs and spices?

Sealed, cool and dark - a cupboard rather than a shelf above the hob. Heat and daylight are what strip the aroma out of them.

Are the tins BPA-free?

Several of our suppliers have moved to BPA-free linings and say so on the pack, though it is not universal. Check the product page or ring us on 01323 928523 and we will confirm against the current batch.

What is the difference between organic and natural?

Organic is a certified legal standard with an named certifier on the pack. Natural is not regulated in the same way and can mean very little. If it matters to you, look for the certification mark rather than the adjective.
