What is CoQ10?

Coenzyme Q10 is a compound the body makes itself and which is also found in small amounts in food. It is present in most tissues, with the highest concentrations in organs with high energy demand. Levels decline with age.

Ubiquinone or ubiquinol?

Two forms of the same compound. Ubiquinone is the oxidised form and the one used in most established products, including Pharma Nord's Bio-Quinone range, which is the one customers here ask for by name. Ubiquinol is the reduced form and is generally sold at a higher price. The body interconverts the two.

On claims, plainly

CoQ10 carries no authorised health claim in Great Britain, in either form. Applications to have one approved have not succeeded. We stock it because a lot of people take it and know exactly why they are buying it - but you will not find us telling you what it does.

Statins and interactions

CoQ10 is very commonly bought by people taking statins, often on a doctor's suggestion. If that is you, mention it to your GP or pharmacist rather than assuming - and note that CoQ10 can interact with warfarin. Take it with a meal containing some fat, as it is fat-soluble.
