What is magnesium citrate?

Magnesium bound to citric acid, the mild acid found naturally in citrus fruit. The binding affects how the compound behaves; the magnesium itself is the same mineral in every form.

What does magnesium do?

Magnesium contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism, to a reduction of tiredness and fatigue, to normal muscle function and the normal functioning of the nervous system, to normal protein synthesis and normal psychological function, and to the maintenance of normal bones and teeth. It also has a role in the process of cell division.

Citrate or glycinate?

The two most commonly chosen forms. Citrate is longer established and more widely stocked; glycinate is the one most often asked for by people who have found other forms did not suit them. How to compare products

Look at the elemental magnesium per serving rather than the compound weight - a 200mg magnesium citrate capsule does not supply 200mg of magnesium. The Nutrient Reference Value is 375mg and every label shows the percentage NRV. Powders let you adjust the amount; capsules and tablets give you a fixed dose. Follow the directions on the pack and do not exceed the stated dose.
