Kangavites is Solgar's children's range, and a chewable tablet exists for the obvious reason – a small child will not swallow a capsule. 100mg is a modest, sensible amount rather than an adult dose in a fruit flavour.

Chewables also suit adults who cannot manage tablets, though the amount is small for an adult. Check the pack for the age guidance and follow it.

Worth saying because it rarely gets said: vitamin C is acidic, and a chewable tablet sits against the teeth while it dissolves. Over years, chewing acidic tablets daily is not ideal for enamel.

The practical answer is simple – take it with a meal rather than alone, and rinse with water afterwards. Do not brush immediately after, as enamel is softer straight after anything acidic.

Children's supplements taste pleasant, which is the point and also the risk. Keep them out of reach and treat them as you would any supplement rather than as sweets.

If your child is unwell, on any medication, or you are unsure whether they need a supplement at all, ask your GP, health visitor or pharmacist first.

FAQ

Is this suitable for adults?

It is a children's formulation at 100mg. Adults can take chewables but the amount is small; check the pack's age guidance.

Are chewable vitamins bad for teeth?

Vitamin C is acidic and a chewable sits against the teeth. Take it with a meal, rinse with water afterwards, and do not brush straight away.

How should I store them?

Out of reach of children. They taste pleasant, which is both the point and the reason to be careful.

Does my child need a vitamin C supplement?

Ask your GP, health visitor or pharmacist. That is a better guide than a shelf.
