What is the difference between whole bean and ready ground?
Whole bean stays fresher for longer but needs a grinder. The ground coffees are ready to use, ground coarse for a cafetiere or filter. Beyond that they are the same coffee.
Can I use the ready-ground coffees in an espresso machine?
Not well – they are ground for a cafetiere, so the water passes through too fast. For espresso buy Revelation Espresso as whole bean and grind it fine.
Which Union coffee should I start with?
House Blend for a reliable everyday coffee, Revelation if you pull espresso, Bobolink Brazil if you find some coffees too sharp, and Maraba or Yayu if you want to taste a single origin properly.
Is any of it organic, and is there a decaf?
Natural Spirit is certified organic, in 200g and 1kg. There is a decaf in ready-ground and in a 1kg whole bean, plus a Half Caff at roughly half the usual caffeine.
Are the 1kg bags better value?
Considerably, per cup. Worth keeping the bulk sealed and decanting a week at a time, since coffee stales once air gets to it.
How should I store it once opened?
Airtight, cool and out of the light, and used within a few weeks. Best to avoid the fridge and freezer, as coffee readily picks up moisture and other smells.
